1) Start a wedding file as
soon as possible. Use a file box with file folders to organize each
aspect of the wedding such as the ceremony, wedding gown, flowers,
reception, etc.
2) Plan your guest list early. Take the maximum number of guests, subtract the wedding party, then divide the remaining number by four. Allow your parents, his parents, and you and the groom to invite 1/4 of the remaining guests. Check each list for duplications. 3) Meet with an accountant or financial advisor to discuss your budget for the wedding. Also, it's a good start to planning your financial future together. 4) Maintain an expense journal. Include companies you've contacted, name of person you spoke with, estimates of cost, etc. 5) When selecting your bridal gown, do not bring more than two other people with you. Try on various styles and different "whites". White can vary in tone from blue to deep ivory. 6) When selecting bridesmaid's gowns, consider two pieces like a slim skirt and separate top. The flexibility of this outfit makes it a better investment for your bridesmaids. 7) If your wedding is planned for the middle of summer or the middle of winter, consider using silk flower arrangements. They will hold up well under extreme heat or cold. 8) When selecting a reception facility, be sure to get details and quotes in writing. And visit at least three facilities before making a final decision. 9) When selecting a photographer or videographer, be sure to see the work of the person who will actually be taking your pictures. Make sure that person is named in the contract. 10) If you are planning an outdoor wedding, make sure you have a back-up plan in case of bad weather. This would include both the ceremony and the reception. 11) Don't hold a bachelor or bachelorette party the night before the wedding. You want to be in tip top shape for your big day, not hung over. 12) Try these ideas for a table centerpiece... fresh fruit or nuts in a bowl, candles of different heights, or an assortment of balloons. Seasonal weddings can use giant pumpkins with fall foliage, a big chocolate heart or a glass bowl filled with Christmas ornaments. 13) When selecting flowers consider the season of year, your colour scheme and the style and formality of your wedding. If possible, bring a swatch of the attendant's dresses. 14) Graduation and prom seasons can interfere with May and June weddings, especially when it comes to limousines. Make sure you book these well in advance.
15) If you have guests coming to your wedding from many different areas,
insert a map with both visual and written instructions with the wedding
invitations. Have extra maps printed for distribution after the ceremony
if the reception is being held at a different location. |
