For a vast majority of ordinary working people in United States (and all over the world), the process of selling or buying a house, or some other type of real estate, is a very stressful and complicated experience, which rarely leaves people happy even if they did succeed in attaining a substantial financial gain. Profit is of course important, but health is certainly more valuable, and all the stress and headaches that often happen during the whole trading process are hardly worth it. That is the reason why we hire professionals who are fully committed to this business area and they perform all of the required steps, which saves clients from the whole hassle and running around. Sales agents, known as real estate agents, are the ones without who the whole real estate industry would stop in its tracks and the wheels would come flying off.
Real estate agents act as a catalyst for the trading process, because it is up to them to be a connection or a link between the buyer and the seller, in addition to their other duties. Those other responsibilities are numerous and depend from agency to agency, but in general – sales agents are responsible for finding the appropriate and adequate piece of land or a house, or finding a suitable and interested client in the opposite case, presenting the property, organizing tours, negotiating about the price and other demands, sealing the deal and making a contract, and so on. As we can see, a very demanding role and definitely crucial if a successful deal is expected.
That is the reason why experts in the field of real estate have come up with a set of instructions which would make it easier for everybody to find a good sales agent and to efficiently sell or buy a property:
- Find and make a list of “preliminary options” (either have them recommended to you by friends, family or coworkers, or just check the internet)
- Narrow the list by doing research. This is one of the most important steps, so it should be performed seriously and thoroughly. (Check if agents are licensed, do they have any awards or complaints associated to their name, how many years of experience they have, etc. Use reviews from other professionals, or references from your friends and the people who recommended the agents in the first place)
- Check if the remaining agents are specialized in the field that you require, and if they are well-connected on the local level. It is very important that the agent is in an expert in that particular area where you are planning to buy/sell, and that he or she knows everything there is to know about the place.
- Do the interview! This final step is certainly the most important, since personal contact enables you to check everything that is necessary and to see if the person is the right for the job. Internet is a good tool for picking up information, but it should never be trusted completely and the ultimate decision is always – after the interview!
Naturally, there are various other things that some people will look into, and it is all a very subjective matter, but these rules are tried and tested over the years and clients should follow them as much as possible.
